I don't even know how to follow on from the last post, except to say thankyou from the bottom of my heart for listening, for reading, for commenting, and for responding with compassion to something I believe should be a given for any mother. Sometimes it needs to be stated out loud, and reaffirmed.
It's been a bit domestic around here lately, with a lot of focus on the house and our environs. The long term bathroom renovation is taking shape, and all our fears of 'are we doing the right thing for the space' have dissolved with the insertion of a new bath, new tiling, and some very 'proud' fittings. They are proud because they make a statement, and they are very square and very lovely. We are so thrilled with this small result so far, we've found extra money to finish the rest of it off. So this week I hope to finalise a basin, and have some sessions with a friend who has offered to make the joinery for us. All this has led onto speeding up the backyard plans and some interlocking decks, and a side project for me to revamp the kitchen and get rid of the yellowed stained timber cupboards whichI have loathed since we moved in. And nothing has been done on the coast house. For which I am reminded daily.
We've been having a lot of to and fro discussions here about what to do with the kids room. The two children share at the moment, and it's been working great, so we're going to keep them together a while longer. But there is a bed situation. Their room is large, but the way the room is configured, makes it difficult to get two single beds in with any sort of layout or style or workability. The kids want bunk beds. The husband wants bunk beds. But I have a hatred of bunk beds. Until now. On searching through the internet, I fell in love with anumberofbunks which have great style and would work as 'objects' in the room. Pieces of real furniture, not something throw away or flimsy like most bunks feel. I could do bunk beds like this. But I can't do the cost. I finally found something in Australia, for a reasonable cost, that met my design criteria, and now we have bunk beds ordered in time for christmas [can't find a link or photo, but Carter from Domayne if anyone is interested]. The kids have a deep red wall in their room which I'd like to paint out another colour, which will please Max no end because it will be in the green family which is his favourite. Between that and sleeping on the top bunk, I think we just created Max Heaven. The bunk splits intp seperate beds when the time comes, and eventually they willgo to the coast house. When it gets done.I fully intend to get all the prints and pictures I have been saving framed and up in their room as well. One day soon.
And cooking has been happening. Muffins baked - the same Apple Streusel muffinsI love and are easy to make, and very tasty. They never last long. Pia helps me cook on her little timber kitchen - replicating all the moves/actions/steps alongside me. She often plays bakingwitha timber cakeand grabs my oven mitt which is way too big - so I've had it in mind to make her one of her own which is more kid sized.
Just simple linen and various scraps of linen and cotton pieces I have stored away. The insides are lined in contrast fabrics, mainly various red spotted fabrics, and there is wadding sandwiched between the two layers. Perfectly sized for small hands ages 2-8 [approx.] And why make one children's mitt when you can make a bunch of them!
And I thought, why have a bunch of them if you can't give them away....so if you want one, leave a comment and I'll draw 3 names at 9pm Sydney time, Tuesday 4th November and one could be yours.
